Blue Mosque Tours & Experiences in Istanbul
About Blue Mosque
The Blue Mosque, officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is one of Istanbul’s most celebrated Ottoman landmarks. Commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I and constructed between 1609 and 1616 under the direction of architect Sedefkar Mehmed Agha, it stands in the historic Sultanahmet district facing Hagia Sophia. The mosque is renowned for its elegant domes, six minarets and interior decoration featuring blue, green and white tiles that inspired its popular English name. Still serving as an active place of worship, the Blue Mosque remains an essential cultural and architectural highlight for visitors exploring Istanbul’s Historic Peninsula.
