During the population exchange of 1923, the Greek inhabitants departed, leaving behind a rich architectural heritage that is still evident today. The journey continues to the Soganli Valley, home to ten rock-hewn churches with well-preserved wall paintings from the 10th to 13th centuries. The valley is also famous for the locally crafted Soganli dolls, a tradition born from a mother’s sorrow after losing her child. Over time, village women perfected the craft, creating these handmade dolls while their husbands tended to livestock in the mountains.
