Tour Itinerary
Begin your day with a visit to Kaymakli Underground City, one of the most fascinating and complex underground settlements in Cappadocia. Originally carved out across eight levels (with four levels open to visitors today), this incredible city could shelter up to 5,000 people during times of invasion.
Explore its labyrinth of tunnels, stables, kitchens, storage rooms, churches, and communal spaces, offering a vivid glimpse into the hidden life of early Christians seeking refuge.
Continue to Soganli Valley, a breathtaking open-air museum nestled in a wild, natural setting near a traditional Cappadocian village. The valley is known for its distinctive style of rock-cut churches and beautifully preserved frescoes. Surrounded by “tabletop” mountains, the valley’s peaceful atmosphere and historical importance make it a true hidden gem of Cappadocia.
Many of the churches here date back to the 9th to 13th centuries, with inscriptions that provide valuable historical references for scholars studying early Christian Cappadocia. After exploring Soganli, enjoy a delicious lunch featuring local specialties in a traditional village setting. Following lunch, visit Sahinefendi (Sobessos), an exciting archaeological discovery made in 2002.
Excavations at Sobessos have uncovered well-preserved mosaic houses, baths, and other remnants of a Roman-era settlement, offering new insights into Cappadocia’s ancient history.
Proceed to the Keslik Monastery, near the village of Cemil. Hidden behind a thin layer of smoke-stained rock, the frescoes inside the monastery can only be fully revealed with the use of torchlight, adding a mystical and intimate feeling to the exploration of its ancient halls and chapels.
Conclude your tour with a visit to Mustafapasha (Sinassos), a charming old Greek town renowned for its spectacular Greek stone houses. Once a thriving Greek settlement, Mustafapasha boasts elegant mansions, ornate facades, and peaceful streets that reflect the rich architectural and cultural heritage of the late Ottoman and early Republican eras. Return to your hotel after a full day of hidden treasures, ancient history, and authentic village life in Cappadocia.
