Commercial Agora, Acropolis of Pergamon, Pergamon Theater
Explore the ancient city of Pergamon, visit the famed Altar of Zeus, hillside theater, Temple of Athena, and learn about its role as one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.
Depart for Pergamon, one of the most significant cultural, social, and sacred centers of the ancient world. Built on a steep conical hill rising 1,000 feet above the surrounding valley, Pergamon served as a powerful capital city during the Hellenistic period.
Pergamon is home to two of Turkey’s most celebrated archaeological sites, with its acropolis ranked among the top 100 historical sites on the Mediterranean. Most of the monumental structures at Pergamon were built during the reign of King Eumenes II (197–159 BC), a period of great cultural and political prosperity.
During your visit, explore the spectacular hillside theater, the famous Library of Pergamon—once holding more than 200,000 scrolls—the royal palaces, the Altar of Zeus, and the propylaeum of the Temple of Athena. Learn about Pergamon’s critical role in the development of early Christianity, as it was home to one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.
As you walk through these magnificent ruins, you will experience the grandeur and historical significance of one of the ancient world’s most important cities.

Semih, our guide, and Can, our driver, gave us a wonderful tour of ancient ruins at Pergamon. Both the health site of Springwater, baths, small theater, and library; and the hill top ruins of temples, castle rooms, walls, and theater were included. Semih is so knowledgeable on the history and geography of the sites. His commentary both at the sites and on the road made for a rich and enjoyable day. Great accommodations made for our food allergies at lunch. I highly recommend this tour.

Pergamon was an extraordinary site! The acropolis views and ancient theater are just mind-blowing.
The Red Basilica and Asclepion were highlights for me. A must-see if you’re into ancient civilizations.
Our guide from Crossroads Travel was very knowledgeable and made history come alive at every stop.
